Are you enjoying the holiday season or feeling stressed?
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, you’re not alone. Holidays can be exceptionally stressful and while you’re busy caring for everyone else, it’s important to take some extra time for your own self-care.
If you find yourself feeling scattered, cranky, or struggling to focus, it might not be that there’s too much to do, but simply a sign that your energy isn’t grounded. When our energy is grounded, we experience an overall sense of well-being and clarity, we’re able to focus on the present moment and be more patient with ourselves and others.
Fortunately, if you’ve been feeling stressed out or overwhelmed, there are some simple tools that can help us to ground our energy so we can feel better and enjoy the present moment.
Here are 5 basic tools to help you feel grounded now:
1) Root vegetables
Being close to the earth helps with balance and grounding, and consuming root vegetables is one way to do this. There is an abundance of fresh root vegetables during the autumn season such as potatoes, beets, carrots, celery, horseradish, parsnips and turnips. It’s an inexpensive, healthy, and simple way to help get closer to mother earth, giving us the grounding we need.
2) Reiki
Reiki has so many benefits. It’s a great stress reducer and helps with grounding. Focusing on this during a session will help you relax and be grounded, while giving you the energy to continue on with the hustle and bustle of the holidays without feeling overwhelmed. After the Reiki session you will be amazed at how light and energized you feel.
3) Meditation
Meditation quiets the mind, energizes you and balances the brain in order to help you think more clearly. It gives you the opportunity to connect and balance your center, putting life back into perspective and inner peace. There are many different purposes for meditation and so many to choose depending on the need. Gratitude meditation can release hormones and chemicals in your body to support your immune system. Chakra meditations can work on health, balancing and opening awareness. Focused meditation can be used for clarity and stay present.
4) Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy relieves stress, helps us to relax, and gives us a sense of calmness. There are many different ways to enjoy the therapy of aroma. Sage has many benefits. Burning sage can be used to cleanse space. By cleansing your space, it helps to alleviate stress and clear the mind. Simply lighting candles around your home can help with calming the mind to focus on the task at hand. Some aromas are known to help relax you, such as peppermint, eucalyptus, and lavender, though I recommend using whatever resonates with you. Taking time out for yourself with a lavender salt bath can help you rejuvenate. Soft lighting, candles and gentle music help set the mood for total relaxation.
5) Walking outside in nature
Going outside and connecting with nature helps us to unclutter the mind. It is a great form of meditation. When walking outside, try to clear your thoughts and just be in the moment. If weather permits, walk barefoot for a deeper connection to the earth. Walking barefoot has been known to improve sleep and reduce depression. Feel the earth beneath you. Listen to the sounds of nature; the birds, the rustle of the leaves. Feel the breeze and smell the fresh air. Pick up a small stone from the ground and place it in your pocket. When entering back into the house or office, you’re carrying a piece of nature with you for the rest of the day.
While there are many more ways to ground your energy, I love how we can all easily access these tools. Try one or more daily for a week and see the improvements. You may be pleasantly surprised at the results.
The holidays are a busy time of year for many of us, but they don’t need to be stressful. Taking some time to balance and center our energy can help us to focus and enjoy the holidays. With just a little time devoted to our own self-care, we can find the extra energy to help us complete everything on our to-do lists without sacrificing the joy of family time, gatherings with loved ones, and the magic of the season.
